This classic Tibet journey begins with a scenic overland drive from Kathmandu across the Friendship Highway, passing Himalayan landscapes, high mountain passes, turquoise lakes, and ancient monasteries. The adventure ends with a breathtaking flight from Lhasa back to Kathmandu. Over 8 days, you’ll explore the highlights of Tibet—Shigatse, Gyantse, and Lhasa—while experiencing Tibetan Buddhist culture and the dramatic Himalayan plateau.

Itinerary

Day 1Kathmandu – Kerung Border (Nepal-Tibet Border)

Drive from Kathmandu through scenic hills and river valleys. Cross the Nepal–Tibet border at Kerung (2,700m). Overnight in Kerung.

Day 2Kerung – Tingri / Lhatse (Approx. 240 km, 5–6 hrs)

Drive through high mountain terrain with views of Shishapangma (8,013m). Pass through Tibetan villages and open landscapes. Overnight in Tingri or Lhatse.

Day 3Tingri / Lhatse – Shigatse (3,900m | 244 km, 6–7 hrs)

Drive along the Friendship Highway. Visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, seat of the Panchen Lama. Overnight in Shigatse.

Day 4Shigatse – Gyantse (3,950m | 90 km, 2 hrs)

Short drive to Gyantse.Explore Kumbum Stupa and Gyantse Dzong. Overnight in Gyantse.

Day 5Gyantse – Lhasa (3,650m | 261 km, 6–7 hrs)

Scenic drive via Yamdrok Tso Lake (turquoise holy lake). Cross Karo La Pass (5,010m) with views of Mt. Nojin Kangtsang glacier. Arrive in Lhasa. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 6:Lhasa Sightseeing

Visit Potala Palace, winter palace of the Dalai Lama. Explore Jokhang Temple, the spiritual heart of Tibet.Walk around the bustling Barkhor Street pilgrimage circuit. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 7 Lhasa Sightseeing

Visit Drepung Monastery, once the largest monastery in the world. Visit Sera Monastery, famous for its debating monks. Free evening for shopping or strolling in Lhasa. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 8 Lhasa ✈ Kathmandu (Fly Out)

Morning transfer to Lhasa Gonggar Airport. Scenic trans-Himalayan flight back to Kathmandu, with views of Everest, Kanchenjunga, and other giants.

📌 Important Information for Tibet Travel

🛂 Tibet Travel Permit

  • A clear scanned copy of your passport is required at least 45 days before the tour to process your Tibet Travel Permit.

  • Without this permit, entry into Tibet is not possible.

📖 Chinese Group Visa (from Kathmandu)

  • Travelers entering Tibet from Nepal must obtain a Chinese Group Visa in Kathmandu (not from your home country).

  • For this process, your original passport is required in Kathmandu for a minimum of 4 working days before departure.

  • Our team will assist with the application and handling of all formalities.

⚠️ Additional Notes

  • Ensure your passport has at least 6 months validity from the date of travel.

  • The Tibet permit and Chinese visa are arranged by us, but processing requires your cooperation with timelines.

  • Travel insurance covering high altitude and emergency evacuation is highly recommended.
