Day 1Day 1: Arrival in Paro – Transfer to Thimphu

  • Flight from Kathmandu to Paro (spectacular Himalayan views en route)
  • Warm welcome at Paro Airport by our Bhutanese guide
  • Scenic drive (1.5 hrs) to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan
  • En route stop at Tamchog Lhakhang
  • Visit the Buddha Dordenma, Memorial Chorten, and Tashichho Dzong (outside)
  • Overnight in Thimphu

Day 2Thimphu Sightseeing – Transfer to Punakha

  • Morning visit to Folk Heritage Museum, National Library, and Changangkha Lhakhang
  • Cross the Dochu La Pass (3,100m) with 108 stupas and Himalayan panorama
  • Descend into subtropical valley of Punakha
  • Visit Punakha Dzong, the majestic riverside fortress
  • Overnight in Punakha

Day 3Punakha – Phobjikha Valley (Gangtey)

  • Visit Chimi Lhakhang, the fertility temple of the Divine Madman
  • Scenic drive to Phobjikha Valley, home of the endangered black-necked cranes
